Our first major project as a Historic Trade School is the reproduction of a historic Oregon mudwagon. The mudwagon currently lives in Pendleton, Oregon and is used during the annual Pendleton Round-Up Westward Ho! parade. This wagon was originally used to transport cargo and mail in NE Oregon, after it’s stage route was closed it was then used as a racing vehicle between Walla Walla and Pendleton. That equates to over 150 years of near constant use.
If this isn’t testament to the ingenuity skill and craftsmanship of the previous generations, not sure what is. Our aim is to use this project as a starting point to teach our students all of the trades and skills that were necessary to construct this marvel of American engineering and industry.
Once completed the mudwagon will be carrying official US Mail, as well as various other items (ie People) that would traditionally be found on a stagecoach in the 1800’s. These once in a lifetime opportunities and items will be sold or auctioned to raise money for future projects and classes available through Anvil Academy.
