Young people are the future….
Ensuring a robust education system to train our future workforce is one of the most important missions we have as an industry. Anvil Academy is working alongside WCA to see this happen in the Newberg area.
The WCA’s EDUcation™ program is available to qualifying high school and post-secondary woodworking oriented programs. It is designed to provide a training and evaluation structure that insures students who graduate with a WCA credential have the skills necessary to succeed in today’s industry.
The WCA’s mission is to develop and administer a unified set of Skill Standards for the wood products industry. Since 2011, WCA has developed observable and measurable performance standards and assessments for more than 240 woodworking machine operations.
Anvil Academy is set up to train in many of these operations and as funds are available, more will be added. Providing this training gives the students marketable skills when they graduate. They learn how to work safely and efficiently in a wood shop, building muscle memory as they work on projects and learning how to work in the community.
If you would like to help see this happen, there are several opportunities:
- Adopt a student – Provide monthly funds to support a student in the program.
- Business Share – Sign up to come in one afternoon and share about your job, and why you love it.
- Donation of tools, materials and food (the kids are always hungry after school)
