Basic Knife Making Class
Sunday, January 14 1 – 4 pm Cost is $75 + $15 for materials
So many have asked about making a knife in the blacksmith shop, so Ranger Dan from Champoeg Park will be teaching a Basic Knife Class! This is not a fancy Damascus Steel knife, but it doesn’t cost a minor fortune either.
It is limited to 5 per class and in 3 hours, each student will walk away with a knife and the general skills to make another blade. Handles will not be made in this class, but there will be a class for that later in January. This is a great beginner class and would make a great Christmas gift. Must be 16 years or older.
Girl’s Night Out
Thursday, Dec 14 6:30 – 9 pm Cost includes materials and snacks: $35
Spend an evening with friends or make some new ones! We’ll be getting ready for Christmas by working on the Lathes and scroll saws making Christmas Ornaments and/or Wine Stoppers. And what would a girl’s night out be without munchies and a glass of wine….of course this is after you’re done turning. We have space for 10 for this fun night!
Guerilla Woodworking 101 – Woodworking Basics for Women
Thursday – January 25, 2018 6 – 9 pm
How to make cool stuff with a minimal amount of tools and no table saw. Yes you really can make cool stuff with a minimal amount of tools if you are armed with a few simple and useful techniques. Come and learn the secrets to working with what you have or can get by on a limited budget. Cost is $50 with a maximum of 10 students. Not a hands on class but so worth the info!
Guerrilla Woodworking 102 – Table Saws Tips for Women
Thursday – February 1, 2018 6 – 9 pm
No need to wear your son’s umpire padding anymore! It’s not as scary as you think and it’s really pretty safe if you understand the basics and follow a few simple rules. Come and learn the age old secrets and take the mystery out of one of the most useful tools in the woodworkers shop, the Table Saw. Cost is $50 with a maximum of 10 students.

Guerrilla Woodworking 103 – Jigs/Fixtures and other tools for Women
Thursday – February 8, 2018 6 – 9 pm
Ever want to ask a question in a class but were afraid you’d look dumb? Let us take the fear and the mystery out of woodworking and making really cool stuff. Rob has been working with wood for most of his life and no question is dumb, he’s heard it all. Bring your ideas and questions, or just come and learn some of the secrets that most of the professionals don’t want you to know.
Learn the Basics of Woodturning
Thursdays – Dec 7 6 – 9 pm
Fridays – Dec 1 9 – noon
Tuition: $60/includes basic materials and great instruction!
With a maximum of six students per class, each student will receive the utmost in personal attention and are tailored to the requirements of the student – whether just beginning or advancing skills. This 3 hour class will emphasize tool technique, and sharpening.
The best way to learn is to “do it”, not talk about it and this is possible due to the small number of students (Limited to 6).
The classes are hands-on and are tailored to the need of the individual with each student working on their own lathe. Projects are whatever you want to do – with wood being the limiting factor.
Intro to Woodworking – Wood 101
Learn basic woodworking skills from a Master Craftsman. This basic woodworking class introduces you to the tools at Anvil and the way we “do business”. Once you take this class, and the instructor feels that you have a grasp of the tools, you are eligible to take a projects class and work on what you want.
Cost is $60 for a 3 hour class – then a $20 credit towards a project class.

Basic Blacksmithing Class
Learn the basics of blacksmithing from a skilled blacksmith, or build on skills you have learned in the past. Hands-on projects improve your hammer skills and add to your techniques, and coaching speeds your progress.
With an anvil for each student, there is plenty of hands-on learning and superb coaching in this popular class. A great way to enjoy and refine your smithing skills.
Thursday: 6 pm – 9 pm Dec 7
Saturday: 10 – 1 pm Dec 9 & Jan 6
This class is taught by Matt Rode and will take beginners to new heights as he explores the possibilities of what blacksmithing has to offer. You will gain a working understanding of blacksmith tools and techniques including tapering, flattening, dishing and bending. Matt has worked full time as a blacksmith for many years and you will be inspired as you see what he has created for Mountain Stream Forge. $75/class
Saturday: 10 – 1 pm January 20
Woodworking Projects Class
Saturday – December 9 2 – 5 pm
Tuesday – December 19 6 – 9 pm
It’s like having a shop away from home, with great tools, mentorship and community. Students design and construct projects of their choice. Expert instructors offer guidance on design, construction and finishing, based on individual needs.
We also have a large library of books for you to peruse and get ideas and see patterns. Maybe you want to build a hammock holder, plant stand or bookshelves – we have lots of plans. You are welcome to come down and dream and plan.
A Wood 101 is required to learn your way around Anvil Academy before taking a Projects Class. Cost is $75 for 3 hours.

Deposits: Tuition is due at time of reservation to reserve a spot. Anyone who registers for 3 or more classes receives a 10% discount off class tuition.
Cancellation and Refund Policy: Anvil reserves the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment with full refunds to students. 30% deposit is retained for student cancellations received less than 3 days before a class.
